If you would like to pay a bank transfer, kindly add 5% to your total due to Iraqi bank fees. However, cash is welcomed and we can accept cash with no increase or change to the agreed amount.
If you would like to pay cash, kindly make sure to bring $100 notes or 50$ notes as they are most preferable to pay with in Iraq. However our team can receive any other smaller notes but it shouldn't be more than 30% of the total amount. Make sure that the $100 Bills are printed after 2006 as older ones will not be accepted in all of Iraq. Payment would be due upon arrival in Baghdad.
Iraq's (Visa on arrival) started on the 15th of March 2021.
If you are from these 40 countries you can get the visa sticker at the airports (Baghdad Airport, Basra Airport and Najaf Airport) and also by land at the borders (Between Iraq and Jordan - West of Iraq region, Between Iraq and Kuwait - Entry to Iraq through Basra, Between Iraq and Iran – Entry to Iraq through Basra).
The list of the countries:
- Permanent members of the Security Council: (UK, USA, France, Russia, China).
EU Countries:
(Germany, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland, Gibraltar, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Austria, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia).
Countries with strong economic ties with Iraq:
(Australia, Canada, South Korea, Japan) Also (New Zealand, Switzerland, Norway and Hong Kong) added later in 2022.
Gulf Council of Cooperation Countries:
(Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Oman) added later in December 2022.
You will need your passport in all Iraqi checkpoints and hotels. Make sure you have at least six months valid on your passport on your arrival date, and an empty page in your passport for the Iraqi visa sticker.
Make sure you have no stamp on your passport from regions that don't have recognition from Iraq. (Israel to be specific)
You will find it tough to find stores that will accept cards. Your best would be bringing all the cash you will need for your trip with you beforehand. ATMs are scarce in Iraq, and occasionally the servers will go down, so it won’t be possible to withdraw any money.
Bringing USD will not be a problem as it is also accepted and exchanged and most preferable notes are (100$ and 50$) issued in the year of 2006 and after.
It's always best to dress respectfully. Don't stress too much about what to wear though, but as a general rule of thumb, especially for women, try to cover as much of your shoulders and knees as you can. Long pants and loose-fitting t-shirts. Ideally, skirts should cover your ankles but covering just your knees would be fine too.
In holy shrines, men are not allowed to wear shorts and women should wear scarves and an Abaya. Our female team will help you choose suitable dressing for that, but again, don't worry to much! There are no laws in Iraq dictating what women are to wear. It's just a bit more conservative when visiting holy shrines.
Iraqi Dinar (IQD; symbol ID). In use notes are in denominations of IQD (50,000 - 25,000 - 10,000 - 5,000 - 1,000 - 500 - 250).
1$ = 1320 IQD as the official rate. But usually, 100$ = 150000 IQD in daily use in the market. Better to exchange in a market versus the airport.
It's up to you to ask or accept assistance. If someone is asking to help you and you don't need it, just say "no thank you!"
In case you accept some assistance then tips in hotels or airports should not be more than 5,000 IQD (less than $4).
But really it's up to you! Iraqi culture is not "pushy" and therefore anything you deem reasonable is accepted.
For tipping our tour guide, just use the same tradition that you do in your country. Iraq is your home too!
Have fun! Iraq is a special place, with generous people and a rich culture. I guarantee you will enter the country with one perspective and leave with it completely transformed! :)
